A law enforcement source says that the suspect also had duct tape on him along with the zip ties.
Chief William Scott of the San Francisco Police Department said that 42-year-old David DePape is being charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary, and other crimes related to the attack on Friday morning.
A law enforcement source and a senior congressional aide who knew about the attack said that DePape brought the hammer that was used to hit Paul Pelosi. No other weapons were found when DePape was arrested, according to either source.
Randy Quezada, who is in charge of communications for the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, says that DePape went upstairs to where Paul Pelosi was sleeping. Quezada said that the two did not know each other before the attack.
The first news outlet to say that DePape went to the bedroom was NBC News. CNN said in the past that DePape confronted Pelosi and shouted, "Where is Nancy?" when he asked where his wife was.
Two sources told CNN on Friday that the new details help explain what happened during the attack on Friday when DePape also tried to tie up Paul Pelosi.

Police said that DePape got into the house through the back door, but it wasn't clear if he got around any security measures.
A law enforcement source and another person with knowledge of the situation have said that Paul Pelosi was able to call 911 when the attack started. He was able to keep the line open, and a law enforcement source said that the dispatcher could hear a conversation going on in the background. The man was speaking quietly, but it was clear that he needed help.
The San Francisco police chief said that when they got to the house at 2:27 a.m. local time (5:27 a.m. ET), Pelosi and DePape were fighting over a hammer. Officers saw DePape hit Pelosi "violently" with the hammer before they took him down and put him in jail.

Brooke Jenkins, the district attorney for San Francisco, says that DePape will be charged with multiple felonies on Monday and brought to court on Tuesday.
Pelosi was taken to the hospital after the attack and had "successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands," Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, said in a statement early Friday evening. It is expected that Paul Pelosi will get better.
