Going on vacation is usually something to look forward to. It’s a time to relax and wind down, and give yourself plenty of new opportunities to enjoy yourself, while being surrounded by your loved ones. Vacations are supposed to be a dream!
But whether you’re always looking for the next adventure, or you’re happier to stay at home and look for local things to do, we all know that a vacation can get pretty pricey. And if each vacation that comes around seems to get more expensive than the last, it’s time to do something about the money you’re spending on them.

Start Using Another Bank Account

If you save up all in one account, you’re going to be spending your vacation fund without realising it. So open up another bank account, and funnel a bit of your paycheck each week or month into it. Up to a fifth of what you earn is usually ideal, and then leave that money alone until the time comes to book your vacation.
Use travel loyalty programs
If you like to travel by car, it’s time to look into fuel loyalty programs. Many gas providers offer loyalty programs, and you should think about signing up to all of them. The rewards you can get from these can be massive - you could save at least 5% on all fuel stops, or save up the points you accumulate to exchange for vouchers, including those for Amazon. The latter alone can help you to slash some of the cost on ordering essentials for any future vacations.

Let Go Of That Timeshare

If you once invested in a timeshare thinking it was a good idea, and now you’re getting sick of having to vacation at it at least once a year to make the contract length and price worth it, it’s time to get that holiday home out of your life! Of course, this is easier said than done, but it’s not an impossible thing to achieve.
After all, there are many timeshare exit companiesout there to look into; using these services can cost a big upfront fee, but it’ll save you money in the long run. Similarly, you can look into the ‘Buyback’ clause of your contract, and see if the company you originally bought from is willing to take their property back (usually at a discounted rate), and get it out of your hair once and for all.

Look Into Free Accommodation

It’s possible to find somewhere free to stay! If you’ve got a friend who lives abroad, you can stay in their spare room or on their couch, but if you don’t, don’t sweat it. There are many online platformsfor bringing together travelers who’d like somewhere free to stay, and building ‘a network’ of people who can offer you free board can really cut costs on hotel and hostel prices in the future.
If you really want to vacation for less, remember tips like these in the future.
