Glenn Weiss, one of the show's executive producers and showrunners, told entertainment journalists in a Zoom call on Wednesday that Lady Gaga won't perform at the Oscarson Sunday (March 8).
Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, the show's producers, had been vague about Lady Gaga's possible appearance. The Oscars had already said that the other four songs nominated for the Oscars would be performed at the Dolby Theatre ceremony (live on ABC, 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT).
Weiss said at a news conference on Wednesday that Gaga told the show's producers that she won't be performing because she is working on the movie "Joker: Folie à Deux" with Joaquin Phoenix.
Lady Gaga wearing a black dress while holding a black bag with fur After weeks of rumors, Oscarcast director Glenn Weiss confirmed today that Lady Gaga will not sing "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick, which was nominated for Best Song, at Sunday's 95th annual Academy Awards.
Lady Gaga's song "Hold My Hand," which is on the soundtrack for "Top Gun: Maverick," is up for Best Original Song at the ceremony. However, she won't be able to join the other nominees at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles because of her role as Harley Quinn in "Joker: Folie a Deux." Glenn Weiss, an Oscars producer, said at the Oscars Creative Team press conference:
“„We have great relationships with Lady Gaga and her camp (but) she's in the middle of shooting a movie right now, and here we are honoring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie.- Glenn Weiss
“„After a bunch of back and forth, it didn't feel like she can get a performance to the caliber that we're used to with her, that she's used to and all that stuff.- Glenn Weiss
“„So she is not going to perform on the show, however, this is all, from our point of view, about someone making a movie and us completely understanding that that's what is priority in this business, especially when we are honouring movies.- Glenn Weiss
Even though Gaga and Bradley Cooper performed at the 2019 Oscars when "Shallow" from their movie "A Star Is Born" won Best Original Song, she won't be singing at this year's ceremony. However, all of the other nominated acts will be performed.
All five nominees for Best Original Song usually perform their songs live at the Oscars. On Sunday, Rihanna will sing "Lift Me Up" from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne, and Son Lux will sing "This Is a Life" from Everything Everywhere All at Once, Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava will sing "Naatu Naatu" from RRR, and "Applause" from Tell It Like a Woman will be performed (performed by Sofia Carson and Diane Warren). No one knows yet if someone else will sing "Hold My Hand" or if Lady Gaga will still show up to the ceremony.
Let's just get this over with. Lady Gaga won't perform at the Oscars "Hold My Hand" from "Top Gun: Maverick," which is nominated for best song. The 95th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday.
The singer has told producers that she plans to attend the ceremony as a nominee, but she won't have time to prepare a musical number because she is working on the Warner Bros. DC sequel Joker: Folie à Deux with Joaquin Phoenix.
The 95th Annual Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 12 and will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. At 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, ABC is broadcasting the show live from coast to coast and in more than 200 countries around the world.
