Space Jam: A New Legacy Also Known As Space Jam 2 2021

Space Jam: A New Legacy (also known as Space Jam 2) is a live-action/animated sports comedy film released in 2021 by Warner Bros. Pictures and produced by Warner Animation Group. Malcolm D. Lee directs the picture, which was written by Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Keenan Coogler, Terence Nance, Jesse Gordon, and Celeste Ballard and is based on a script by them.
The film is a standalone sequel to Space Jam (1996) and marks the first time since Looney Tunes: Back in Action that the Looney Tunes characters have been included in a theatrical release (2003).
The film stars LeBron James as a fictitious version of himself, with live-action parts played by Don Cheadle, Khris Davis, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Cedric Joe, and Looney Tune’s voice actors Jeff Bergman, Eric Bauza, and Zendaya.
James enlists the help of the Looney Tunes to win a basketball game against avatars led by a dishonest artificial intelligence dubbed Al-G Rhythm and recover his abducted son Dom, whom Al-G pulled into a Warner Bros.-themed virtual universe. Following its debut, talks for a sequel to Space Jam started.
The project was finally halted owing to Michael Jordan's unwillingness to return. Director Joe Pytka was linked to return in that role, while animation supervisors Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone were signed on, but the project was eventually stalled due to Michael Jordan's refusal to return.
Several potential spin-offs centering on other sportsmen, such as Jeff Gordon, Tiger Woods, and Tony Hawk, were also planned but never implemented. A LeBron James-led sequel was officially confirmed in 2014 after many years in production, with shooting taking place in Los Angeles from June to September 2019 under the direction of Nance.
Nance quit the movie in July 2019 after a few weeks of shooting and was replaced by Lee. The film is dedicated to basketball star Kobe Bryant and mini-me actor Verne Troyer, who died in 2020 and 2018 respectively, before the film's premiere.
Space Jam: A New Legacy debuted in Los Angeles on July 12, 2021, and was distributed in cinemas and on HBO Max for a month on July 16 in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures. The picture earned $163 million worldwide and was widely panned by reviewers, who lambasted its storyline and extensive product placement on the studio's properties.
