After being engaged for 19 years, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, 60, and former Ferrari CEO Jean Todt, 77, finally got married on Thursday, July 27, in Geneva, Switzerland. Felipe Massa, a former F1 driver, shared photos from a wedding he went to as a guest on Instagram on July 28.
In one of the pictures, there was a card with a history of the couple's relationship. It said that Michelle and Jean met on June 4, 2004, in Shanghai. A little over a month later, on July 26, 2004, Jean asked Michelle to marry him, and Michelle said yes.
The Brazilian race car driver also posted a few more pictures from the wedding, showing Yeoh's two bridal looks: a white silk button-down shirt with a tiered, ruffled maxi skirt and a lace corset gown with embellishments on the bodice. Her most important item for the night? Yeoh decided to break with custom and carry her Oscar trophy, also known as "Mr. O.", instead of a wedding bouquet. The man, on the other hand, wore a simple navy blue suit and a light blue tie.
Massa also posted photos of the happy couple and their close friends who came to their wedding, including a selfie with Yeoh's Best Actress Oscar statuette. Yeoh was the first Asian actress to win the award in March for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The couple owns a house in Geneva that was built in the 18th century. It is their main home when they are not traveling for work. Also, they own homes in Paris, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
Michelle Yeoh is a Malaysian actress and producer who has achieved international recognition for her work in both Asian and Western cinema. She was born on August 6, 1962, in Ipoh, Malaysia.
Michelle Yeoh gained prominence in the 1990s with her roles in Hong Kong action films. She became known for her exceptional martial arts skills and her ability to perform her own stunts. Some of her notable films from that era include "Supercop" (also known as "Police Story 3: Super Cop") alongside Jackie Chan, and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" directed by Ang Lee.
In addition to her success in Asian cinema, Michelle Yeoh has also made a significant impact in Hollywood. She appeared in various English-language films, such as the James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies," where she portrayed the character Wai Lin, and the science fiction film "Sunshine" directed by Danny Boyle.
Michelle has had a big year. Just a few months before she got married, she won her first Academy Award for her work in "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once." Even before she won an Oscar, the Malaysian actress's roles in Tomorrow Never Dies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha, and, more recently, Crazy Rich Asians, made her a star on the big screen.
Apart from her acting career, Michelle Yeoh has been actively involved in producing and promoting Asian cinema. She is an advocate for women's rights and has been appointed as a United Nations Development Programme Goodwill Ambassador.
Todt is a well-known name in racing and Formula One. He met Yeoh at an event to show off a new car. In an interview with the Financial Times, the couple called how they met "a fairytale."
Since 2015, Jean, a French racing manager, has been the Special Envoy for Road Safety for the UN Secretary General. He was also the head of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) from 2009 to 2021.
