Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a radio DJ from the Kansas City area, passed away following a shooting at the Chiefs' victory rally, as reported in a post shared by her employer, KKFI radio 90.1 FM.
"It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life," the station shared on Facebook. The police have not released any information regarding the circumstances of her death.
Lisa was one of our programmers/DJs on Taste of Tejano. Like all our programmers, she was a volunteer who donated her time and talent to KKFI. Along with her co-producer/DJ Tommy Andrade, their show has brought a voice to the KC community that is missed in the mainstream media. We are absolutely devastated at the loss of such an amazing person who gave so much to KKFI and the KC community.- Kelly Dougherty
Lopez-Galvan's bio on the station's website expressed her belief that music is "life and a source of happiness." Before co-hosting Taste of Tejano starting in March 2022, she worked as a bilingual private DJ for over 15 years. According to a Missouri lawmaker who attended the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl celebration parade with his 5-year-old daughter and spoke to CNN, several family members of Lopez-Galvan were among those injured.

A Missouri lawmaker who survived the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs parade on Wednesday, along with his 5-year-old daughter, expressed grief over the loss of his close friend, who was fatally shot at the scene. Manny Abarca, the treasurer of the Kansas City Public School Board, recounted to reporters how he and his daughter had departed from the main stage area when they heard screams and witnessed a surge of people rushing towards them.
I didn't know exactly what was happening at the time, but people were saying guns, police, run.- Manny Abarca
He recounted swiftly picking up his daughter and seeking refuge in a nearby restaurant, joined by Kansas City Chiefs players, owners, family members, and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Abarca mentioned that his daughter calmly went into what he called "protocol mode" and remarked to him, "This is like training."
"No one should have to go through this," Abarca said.
Abarca, a lifelong friend of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, who perished in the shooting, remembered her as a devoted mother who embraced Latino culture while working at the local radio station. "Such a tragic loss both to our community and also to her family," he remarked. Abarca also mentioned that several of Lopez-Galvan's family members who were present at the parade were among those injured.
President Joe Biden urged Congress and the nation to take action in response to the mass shooting that occurred after Wednesday's parade celebrating the Super Bowl victory of the Kansas City Chiefs.
It is time to act. That's where I stand. And I ask the country to stand with me. To make your voice heard in Congress so we finally act to ban assault weapons, to limit high-capacity magazines, strengthen background checks, keep guns out of the hands of those who have no business owning them or handling them.- President Joe Biden
Biden commented that the Super Bowl victory should have been a moment of celebration.
"For this joy to be turned to tragedy today in Kansas City cuts deep in the American soul. Today's events should move us, shock us, shame us into acting. What are we waiting for? What else do we need to see? How many more families need to be torn apart?"
