Prosecutors Rest Sexual Assault Case Against Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey tells jury of 'romantic' touching

Today, Kevin Spacey spoke directly to the jury in his U.K. hearing, where he has pleaded not guilty to 12 charges of sexual assault. Since the hearing started two weeks ago, this is the first time Spacey has spoken in his own defense.
Kevin Spacey fought back tears as he told a court in London on Thursday how his "world exploded" when he was first accused of sexual assault. The actor who has won two Oscars is on trial at Southwark Crown Court on 12 charges of sex crimes against four men between 2001 and 2013. The men were in their 20s and 30s at the time.
At the beginning of his defense, when he was giving evidence, Spacey rejected any sexual assaults and told the jury he was "crushed" by the claims. He has said he is not guilty of every charge. The 63-year-old got emotional as he talked about what he said were the effects of separate claims made by actor Anthony Rapp and published by Buzzfeed in the U.S. in 2017.
The American actor has pleaded not guilty to 12 charges, including sexual and indecent assault and forcing someone to do penetrative sexual activity without their permission. The claims go back to when Spacey worked at the Old Vic Theatre from 2001 to 2013.
Even though none of the claimed victims knew each other, they all said they went to the police when Spacey was accused of sexual misconduct in the U.S. in 2017 as the #MeToo movement gained steam.
At the time, the claims hurt Spacey's once-great career. He got an Academy Award for best-supporting actor for the 1995 movie "The Usual Suspects" and for best lead actor for the 1999 movie "American Beauty." He lost most of his work after being fired from the TV show "House of Cards."
The four people who accused Mr. Spacey said he groped them aggressively and, in one case, did oral sex on them while they were out cold. The prosecution called him a "sexual bully." At the beginning of his defense, Mr. Spacey told the jury that he hadn't done any sexual attacks and that the accusations had "crushed" him.
The 63-year-old got emotional as he talked about what he said was the effect of separate claims that actor Anthony Rapp made in the US in 2017. Near the end of his nearly three-hour time in the witness box, he gave an emotional speech.
Patrick Gibbs, the defense lawyer, said that the guys were interested in money. Several of them have sued the star, and one of them said that an American lawyer told him he could win $10 million for him.
Gibbs said that witnesses were lying, that one of the men had slowed down the investigation by not letting police look at his phone records and social media accounts, and that some of the men were later ashamed of what they'd done with Spacey with his permission. Spacey is free on bail, and he owns homes in both London and the United States.

Conclusion

The Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey told a court in London on Thursday that he touched the accuser in a "romantic and intimate" way. The complainant is one of four men who have made sexual assault claims against the actor.
All 12 of the charges against the Hollywood star are denied by him. There are three counts of indecent assault, seven counts of sexual attack, one count of getting someone to do sexual activity without their permission, and one count of getting someone to do penetrative sexual activity without their permission.
The claims are based on things that are said to have happened in and around London in the 2000s and early 2010s when Spacey was artistic director at London's Old Vic theater. He was there for 12 years.
