Washington Commanders Set To Fire Ron Rivera After Disastrous Run Of Seven Successive Losses

Rivera’s four seasons in Washington have not been entirely poor; indeed, he took the team to the playoffs in his first campaign, albeit after a 7-0 record. The 62-year-old followed that up with 7-10, and 8-8-1 records in 2021 and 2022, respectively, and time seems to nearly be up.

The Commanders were easily defeated in their final regular season game, with the Dallas Cowboys winning 38-10 to win the NFC East.
Quarterback Dak Prescott completed 31 of his 36 passes for 279 yards and praised the direction his team has taken, stating,
“Look at last year — the way we came into this place and didn’t finish the season the way we wanted to — to where we are now,”
“The growth. The coaching staff. The players. The accountability. The communication. The transparency. And both sides of the ball holding their own.” Prescott added.
All of those statements are in marked contrast to where the Commanders find themselves, and one wonders what the offseason holds for Washington and Rivera.
Indeed, following the loss, Rivera was asked about what the immediate future holds, leading to his rather defeated response,
“I’m not sure what to wait for, but I’ll meet with [Josh Harris] at some point tomorrow.” before adding,
“This ownership group is just as passionate as the fanbase.”
"I think the organization has to do what they believe is best for the organization. I really, truly believe that's what's going to happen. They'll make the best decision going forward." Rivera concluded.
