The Poker Hall of Fame has been going on since 1979, with names like Johnny Moss, Billy Boyd and Doyle Brunson. But there are lots more that are a little more elusive. Where are they now? We’re breaking down the Hall of Famers that are still around, out there somewhere.
Eli Elezra
Considered the friendly grandpa of the poker scene, Eli Elezra is the latest entry into the Poker Hall of Fame. The 60-year-old Israeli poker player finally landed his place amongst the greats during the 2021 season of the WSOP and it was well deserved. He was already a four-time poker bracelet winner and the 2021 season saw him sit at seven events and reach the final table of three of them. He credits Chip Reese and Doyle Brunson for his success at having “taught this fish to swim with the sharks”, as he mentioned when he won.
When asked how he felt about his induction, Eli said: "Amazing, amazing, thank you. For me to be alongside Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, … all those people. I finally made it."
So where is Eli now? Most likely enjoying his 72 chases from the WSOP which came to over $2.5 million! Is this the peak? Or will we see him at the tables of the WSOP 2022 in May?
Chris Moneymaker
It only makes sense that a guy with a name like that is inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. Next, he’ll be in the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame and the Lottery Winners Hall of Fame.
Despite his name simply being an Anglicized offshoot of his ancestors’ German name, “Nurmacher”, Moneymaker has certainly, ahem, made a name for himself in poker. And not without merit either.
Moneymaker got his induction into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2019, after a long career that saw him go home with a WSOP bracelet and over $2.5 million in the WSOP alone. Overall, he’s cashed out almost $4 million! And it seems he’s still got it, having made an appearance at the 2021 WSOP Main Event. He only cashed out $38,600 but it’s a promising sign that we might see him at the 2022 WSOP.
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu is not shying away from the WSOP anytime soon. Where to start with this one? Well, for one thing, we know he’s coming back next year because he told us so. He said he’d need to find somewhere new to park his RV while outside the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.
And how do we know this? Because he told us in his vlog. Yes, Daniel Negreanu, 2014 Poker Hall of Fame inductee, is an influencer. You can find him on GGPoker (ggpoker.co.uk) as a brand ambassador and where you can find a link to his Twitch stream showing all his latest poker escapades.
Despite being nominated for years before his eventual induction, Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu has since earned his place by becoming the player with the second most career winnings in poker history! Let’s see if he can overtake the first in WSOP 2022.
Phil Hellmuth
Ah The Poker Brat. Brat or not it’s hard to argue with Phil Hellmuth’s track record. His records include 16 WSOP bracelets, and a title as the youngest person to ever win a WSOP main event, and the first-place distinction of most WSOP cashes at 138, and most WSOP final tables at 49!
You can most certainly see him at the WSOP 2022 series, as he seems to think that you can never have enough bracelets. And no doubt there will be some form of costume involvedwhen he makes his entrance.
