You already know that travel has a ton of benefits. Being able to take yourself out of your regular day-to-day life and doing something fun, exciting that allows you to relax but also shake off some energy is really beneficial to your health and to your lifestyle. You already know that travel has a ton of benefits. Being able to take yourself out of your regular day-to-day life and doing something fun, exciting that allows you to relax but also shake off some energy is really beneficial to your health and to your lifestyle. Nobody wants to work 24/7 and nobody wants to be harangued into their office and locked in for days at a time. You also might not want to feel the same way in a resort situation where you are bound to one hotel and one place while you choose to go on holiday. One of the best things that you can choose to do for yourself this year is a road trip.
Not only are you actively choosing which places and cultures you might have only ever seen on TV, but you're going to build so many memories that are really going to last a lifetime. Road trips can be done anywhere, in any country, and all you need is a set of wheels and a good plan. American road trips that go across the great roads cross-country are as fantastic as flying abroad and picking up a car on landing to explore.
Whether you make it a big California road trip, or you decide to drive through the Pyrenees, you need to consider exactly why you should be doing it this year. So let's set aside the hotel and resort package holiday options, and let's take a look at why you should be choosing a road trip.
  • You get a moment to breathe. Travel itself gives you time to self-reflect, but being on a road trip gives you time to breathe. You are literally feeling yourself moving miles and miles away from your everyday normal life, which while you probably really enjoy your everyday life, it's still nice to get out of your box for a while and go somewhere new. You don't just rediscover parts of a country, but you rediscover parts of yourself, especially those parts that have been lost in the busyness of life. There's nothing quite like a long drive that can really help to clear the mind, especially if you're singing along to some of your favorite songs.
  • You have a chance to feel inspired. Even if you're not in a creative career, sometimes you just need some inspiration to give your body and your brain a boost. Being in different situations, such as the mountains or by the beach, or even just in the rolling countryside hills allows you a chance to feel inspiration. Have you ever laid on a fresh field while looking up at a canopy of stars if you've never done it before? Make it part of your road trip to at least try. Some of these simplicities can be so complex, but they give you that moment to feel motivated, inspired, and in awe of the world around you.
  • You might meet others just like you. Often if you're taking a well known road trip route, you will meet people who are just like you, those who are trying to discover new things, new places and new cultures, and you'll be able to achieve exactly what it is you want to achieve with it. It's great to make new friends, and the memories that you'll make with new people that you meet along the way can be life changing.
