PFAW calls for Lowe’s boycott over ‘All-American Muslim’ ad pull

The Lowe’s logo (Pic via melissabargains.com ) Responding to the news that home improvement giant Lowe’s pulled its advertising from the TLC reality series All-American Muslim , People for the American Way today called on Americans to “boycott hate” and stop shopping at Lowe’s. The group is also speaking out against the Florida Family Association, the Tampa organization that played a large part in the ad pulls . The Florida Family Association successfully called for companies that advertise during All-American Muslim to withdraw their ads, saying the show is nothing more than “propaganda clearly designed to counter legitimate and present-day concerns about many Muslims who are advancing Islamic fundamentalism and Sharia law.” Though more than 60 companies pulled their ads after FFA supporters sent letters, home improvement chain Lowe’s was the only company to comment publicly on why it did so.

Agricultural groups decry potential EPA water rules to combat algal blooms

Agricultural groups decry potential EPA water rules to combat algal blooms

In a July 14 letter sent to the Florida congressional delegation, a large group of industry and agricultural representatives say that a set of water pollution standards are not the solution for algal blooms and fish kills plaguing many parts of Florida. # The letter is a response to one penned by the Florida Water Coalition, who implored lawmakers to adopt a set of numeric nutrient criteria in an effort to fight Florida’s water pollution, which many say costs Floridians in the long run. In an email dated July 7, the Coalition (which includes Earthjustice attorney David Guest) said that the failure to implement the criteria would be “a clear dereliction of duty,” as excess nutrients impose a threat to public health. # In its response, members from Florida’s top agricultural and industry organizations, as well as Associated Industries of Florida, a top lobbying firm, wrote their own letter
